MiCoCo Closing Party

Dearest Community,

You are cordially invited to celebrate with us more then 10 years of great work together. The Mission Community Council was started as a space for collaboration for the different stakeholders in our neighborhood. Over the years we have done amazing work, built great relationships, and collaborated to ensure that our community maintains the resources and services that we need. We have worked closely with City Hall, and our Supervisors to advocate for our community. After all these years, MiCoCo is coming to an end and we would like all of you who have been a part of this to celebrate with us.

There will be a very short agenda – we promise – but more than anything we wanted to have time for us to share together in community with some good food, lively entertainment, and more than anything, your great company! So please join us Friday June 15th from 4pm-6:30pm at the San Francisco Friends School located at 250 Valencia St. between 14th St. and Duboce Ave.

MiCoCo May Community meeting with Supervisor Campos

On Friday May 4th, MiCoCo held it’s last Community Meeting with Supervisor Campos. In case you missed it, check out what Supervisor David Campos had to say about it:

The three main topics brought up during the meeting included redistricting, the upcoming City budget process, and the closure of MiCoCo’s.

With the topic of redistricting, Supervisor Campos welcomed the new organizations from Portola who are joining District 9. Many were happy that the Portola joined District 9 because for many years the Portola community has been divided amongst different districts. Supervisor Campos felt that in general the redistricting plan was overall positive, and that the outcome benefited District 9, and was elated that he would be representing Portola.

Listen to what Fernando Benitez-Gomez had to say about the meeting:

Around the budget topic, the two issues that were brought up were MediCal and the upcoming City budget process. There are many questions concerning MediCal, the billing process that is a part of MediCal, and how the expansion of usage of MediCal will impact organizations that are new to this process.

The most important dates involving the budget are: June 1st (when the Mayor presents the budget to the board), June 12th (Beilensen hearing at full board regarding cuts to health programs), June 22nd (Public Hearing on Budget – starts at 10am), June 28th (Committee’s Final Budget Deliberations), July 31st (Final Adoption of the Budget).

Supervisor Campos highlighted the importance of budget advocacy, attending the budget meetings and also speaking on how budget cuts will directly impact the community that organizations serve.

Lastly, the group talked about how to continue collaborating together now that MiCoCo will be ending its services. One of the issues that was discussed was community meetings with Supervisor Campos, and how often these meetings should happen. It was decided that every effort should be made to continue meeting with Supervisor Campos, and the supervisor and his office took on with the help of the community to determine the where and with what frequency these meetings should happen.

Check out what Claudia Jasin said about the meeting:

Sunday Streets Mission Pilot Program

Sunday Streets 2012 season features a four-event Mission Sunday Streets Pilot project, consisting of four consecutive events the first Sundays from May to August on the popular Mission route – Valencia from 14th to 24th and 24th Street from Valencia to Hampshire.

All Sunday Streets events start at 11:00 am and last until 4:00 pm. The Mission dates are: May 6, June 3, July 1, August 5, 2012.

The purpose of this pilot is to explore the feasibility of holding more frequent Sunday Streets events on an established route. Our first step is to hold one Sunday Streets per month in the Mission on a regular schedule for consistency – the 1st Sunday of each month – to see what the challenges are and how it works for the community.

Sunday Streets presenting city agency, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, is offering flat rate parking in two Mission area garages on Sunday Streets days between 6:00 am and 12:00 noon:

• $10 Mission Bartlett Garage (90 Bartlett St between 21st & 22nd St)

• $7 San Francisco General Hospital Parking Garage (2500 24th St)

Vehicles entering after 12:00 noon pay the hourly rate.

MiCoCo Closure early summer

It is with a heavy heart that we send this email announcing the closure the of Mission Community Council. After more than 10 years of service MiCoCo will gradually terminate its services. For the next few months we will continue to send out our newsletter and have the community gatherings with Supervisor Campos’ office. We led a comprehensive and thorough process to determine what would be the best direction for MiCoCo, and based on our capacity and resources feel that for now this is the best decision for MiCoCo.

Also please look for an upcoming notice regarding a MiCoCo celebration gathering to recognize all of the hard work that the community has done together under the auspices of the Mission Community Council.

Thanks,

MiCoCo Staff
